'500 Frames' - video installation for art exhibition

'Winter Blues' - The Space, Islington, February 2018

Given the rare opportunity to exhibit in a prestigious art gallery, I wanted to think outside the box. Although painting is something I could have vaguely attempted. I thought it would much more interesting to create something in the format I'm so used to: animation.

The starting point was to make an abstract painting (created in illustrator) that I could explode into pieces.

The next step was to think how each part could animate and burst out from the frame. Th epiece needed to loop perfetly, so any animation I made had to be non-destructive, the pieces needed to reform themselves to construct back into the original frame after every loop

Once the animation was finished, it was a matter of finding a way to present my work. I found a second hand white from a lady in Guildford, stuck in a USB and walllmounted the piece flush to the wall. The exhibiton was a great success, and my piece, which I titled 500 hundred frames helped proved a welcome change from the conventional fine art mediums used by surrounding artists.
